FFfAW: Lorraine

Her name was Lorraine. She would sit on the top of the hill and watch over the grape fields for hours on end.

When she saw people go into his shop, she’d run down and greet them. Sometimes someone would especially like her, and she would give them a present by walking them along the path to the top of the hill and showing them the fields.

In the evenings they would sit on the front porch; he with his pipe and a fly swatter, and she quietly next to him. Lorraine lived this life for 16 years. She was the most beautiful, gentle, black labrador retriever that ever graced the planet.

When she died, he buried her on top of the hill and planted a cherry blossom tree there so she could keep watch forever.

  1. What a lovely, touching story. I like the way you portray this beautiful animal and the devotion she showed to her master. I also like the idea that Lorraine was buried where she could continue to keep watch of the vineyard she loved so much. The cherry blossom tree shows how much her master had loved her.
